I bought my copy of Leopard today and started installing it; Did an archive/install. Everything seemed to be going ok until I got to the 'Time Remaining: Calculating' screen and after 30 minutes it gave me an 'UNKNOWN ERROR' and kicked me out.

I had to reboot, so now when I try installing my HD doesn't even show up!!! :rl::rl::rl:

Apple support forums said to wait 5 minutes and it would show up, it's been 10, I'm cranky, I want to go to sleep and I just want to see Leopard, argh! The drive shows up in Disc Utility but I can't verify or repair it.

Fucking Leopard DVD wouldnt even eject when I rebooted and held down the mouse button.

Never been angrier with my Apple product.

Fucking fantastic. It finally finished checking my HD and great, yellow exclamation point. Can't install it without formatting it now.

Well fuck me, I didn't clone my disk before I jumped into this.

Still can't eject this fucking Leopard DVD to see if I can still get into Tiger.

Verified disk permissions, it seemed fine. Tried verifying the disk and I get 'ERROR: Filesystem verify or repair failed.' Fantastic.

Time to put on a pot of coffee, looks like I'll be up late

I'd be less upset if this was user error, but :wtf:

Good news: I got the fucking DVD out.

Bad news: When I try booting up, I boot into a blank, white screen. Then it goes into the spinning pinwheel/Apple logo.

    I'm fucked.

Is it possible to boot up through my iBook via Firewire or something? I vaguely remember that being done before. :hs:

So pissed right now...waking up at 6 to talk to tech support.

Its almost 6am and im tired so i ddint read through your post carefully, but if you didnt format your drive, you can recover most if not all your data back.

So, lesson learned: backup hard drive before major OS update.

Yup, absolutely my fault for not backing up the drive. Going to try to boot up with my iBook and then I can back everything up.

I guess it'd help if I had a FW cable...gotta go buy one as soon as the store opens.

Used Disk Warrior and it was able to fix my permissions and crap. Back on 10.4 right now, backing up with SuperDuper

It's true, I deserve nothing less than your mockery for my lack of foresight (srsly) :squint: :hs:

But seriously though, [email protected] for randomly crashing during installation, amirite?

Karma must hate me because SuperDuper keeps crashing while I try backing up my HD :mamoru::mamoru::mamoru:

when i install, i plan to replace my macbook's drive with a 7200rpm drive >80gb
that way, ill have a fresh drive and a fresh install, although it might take me a day to get all my programs and settings to my liking

This is a good idea... I could get a new hard drive for my iMac and an enclosure for the old drive, and it would become my Time Machine backup drive. Hmmm...

I'm a glutton for punishment. I tried installing again, and it seems to be behaving itself. :x:

    So far....so good.
