So I got into a heated arguments with my friends today about how much protein you are supposed to take PER LEAN BODY MASS.

I am 177lbs so that means I have to take in about 265g of protein.

Now they all told me it was way too much and that you cannot get that much protein per day.

Would you guys be able to provide me some links to prove them wrong?

I looked here: http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=937642 but I could not find a source from where he got it from.

Also if you guys have a protein heavy diet that would be great too.

Thanks a ton in advance guys.

Why the hell would you have to take in 265g of protein at that weight?

Well I am not saying I am but according to that thread that is what I am supposed to take at my lean body mass.

I personally am 225 pounds at the moment and my lean body mass with the formula int he sticky is 177.

    So I did 177x1.5 and I got 265g

    Edit:

K, I was going by what the thread said.

Also found this for a diet:
    meal 1
    6 eggwhites 2 yolks
3/4 cup oatmeal water or 1% milk
    one scoop whey protein
    meal2
    can of tuna
    1/2 cup rice
    light italian dressing(olive oil)
    meal 3
    6-8oz chicken
    5oz sweet potato
    1/2 cup green beans
    1 tbsp peanut butter
    meal 4
    1 can of tuna
    1/2 cup rice
    light italian (olive oil)
    train
meal 5 (PWO drink ditch it if you don't train)
    2 scoops whey, 1 gatorade
    meal 6
    6-8oz sirloin or steak

According to the NSCA, you are supposed to get at the most 204.5g per day.

Most dieticians say the normal person only needs like .8/kg. That seems absurdly low to me.

the normal person only NEEDS that much protein, they arent saying that .8/kg is optimal for muscle growth or anything like that

How would you not be able to get that much protein per day? I get 270g per day fairly easily.

true. You got to take both sides for what they are. Here = body builders low #'s found online = normal people not working out to build muscle, or people who dont know sh!t.

260g+ of protein may be needed for the broly's here, but less for normal people. I feel 1g per pound of weight is sufficient (im 170 and take in around 160-170g a day). It may not be optimal according to some here, but I am not wasting money and I am gaining strength every month, so whatever.

The highest protein intake recommended by a scientist who works on this subject is around 1 g/lb. Nothing over it was shown to be useful though they know it can't hurt unless you have a preexisting kidney problem.
