Once in a while when I am in a conditioning phase this is what I will do for one of my sessions. If you don't have a lifting partner use a 20 second rest period.

Step 1: find out how much you can one handed snatch with a dumbell.

Step 2: Take a dumbell out of the rack that is about 70 percent of 1rm for your weaker side (if you have a weaker side). For me it is a 90# db because I can only do about 135 with my left side.

Step 3: Let the dumbell hang between your legs and get into about a quarter squat position. Pull the db straight up using your hips and lats and shoulders. Your arms should be like ropes, all tension no compression. Catch the db overhead with a slight dip and return to standing then lower the db to starting position. Repeat as needed, doing all reps for the right arm followed by all reps for the left arm.

Now this is the fun part. You start with 10 reps, 10 on the right then 10 on the left. Do not rest between right and left. When you finish both sides have your partner ready with his db and let him do his 10 and 10. As soon as he finishes his last you should be ready to go and you do 9 on each side. Continue until you get to 1. The only time you should be resting is during your partners set.

notes: find an open space not near a mirror if possible. You may want a trash can near by as well. The stronger you are the harder this is. If you need to drop down to a lighter dumbell then do so, but do not stop or take a bunch of rest.

My best is from 10 to 1 and back up to 5 with an 85 pound db. Post your bodyweight, weight used, and any comments.

Hm, DB snatch marathon, looks tempting. I've never gone any higher than 100lbs since my gym stops there for DB's.

Yeah 65-70 would probably be enough to leave me puking on the floor after 55 reps per side.

Hatebreed is some of the best lifting music I've found to date, along with machine head and Rage. Then again it is some pretty kickass all around music too.

Once I learn how to do these I am definatly going to try them....can't wait till tomorrow.

good stuff. i do something similar. think ive posted it before.

same idea at bottom, wide stance over the db. grab and clean to shoulder height. now, press and stand up at the same time. the hard/advanced part is to try and keep it in a straight line for the whole movement, so your body sort of twists around it, working the obliques as well.

shouldn't you be snapping it up harder? not that I could do that weight or anything :noes:

I used to have to do those with plates, fucked my hands up good..would allways swing back and hit your arm if you did it wrong :wtc:

Edit: With a 500 pound weight in your other hand. Do it timber!

    I'm 38 280 (fat guy in a little coat) I used 65 cause it's my biggest db.
10 sets down to 1. I did it after 20 minutes of boxing, form wasn't the greatest but I think I could have gone with a higher weight. Kinda reminds me of crossfit stuff.

i cut that video out of a DB snatch > catch pulls > sanbag clean and press medley

so I was tired and it was a 100 pound DB

when you are repping it it becomes hard to stay explosive b/c you are under constant tension....pretty good fight specific

    Cool challenge.
70 lbs for 3 was the most I ever tried. So maybe only a 55lber for me to start?
I am lower (legs spread wider in almost a sumo squat) though when I do them.

yeah we used to have to do 25 minutes straight ..combinations of cleans, jerks, snatches, hang clean, hang snatch...etc etc... rolling squats, turkish getups all kinds of wierd shit without rest. That was our "strength training" day..but we had a choice of 25, 35, or 45 lb plates. sucked balls for sure :(
