Far from being, “the world’s most advanced ammunition”, Extreme Shock might be better described as advertising trash and a complete waste of your money.

From a Glock 17 the 9 mm 85 gr “Air Freedom” load offered:
    Bare Gelatin: vel=1598 f/s, pen=3.9” to 5.5”, small fragments
    Denim: vel=1596 f/s, pen=14.6”, rd=0.42”, rl=0.48”, rw=56.6 gr
    Wall: vel=1587 f/s, pen=6.7”, small fragments

From a 1911 the .45 ACP 185 gr “Nytrillium Fragmentable JHP" gave:
    Bare Gelatin: vel=1117 f/s, pen=5.5” to 9.0”, small fragments
    Denim: vel=1120 f/s, pen=9.3” to 12.2”, small fragments
    Wall: vel=1110 f/s, pen=20+”, rd=0.42”, rl=0.57, rw=181.1 gr

I meant bullet weights. Who uses an 85gr defense round? I use 185s in a .40, far as I know, 215-230gr is .45 range..

their school of thought is "faster is better"

  6. Actually the bullets do exactly what they claim to do, the point of this ammo is for close quarters without over penetration, looks like it works.

:werd: Look down at your chest...find a 5x5 square anywhere on it. Then imagine it going 5" deep. The wound is going to be nasty, especially if you get hit more than once, and if you live, getting all of those little pieces dug out is going to be a bitch. I wouldnt want to get shot with one :o

most of the wound stops at 4" couple small fragments make it past that, yeah in chest probably lethal, but it just dumps all its energy at once, anything other then a chest shot probably wont be immediatly lethal. If it hits bone as it goes in might not do so much damage either, :dunno: I think I rather stick with convential ammo.

Here's the problem though 5" of ballistics gel isn't 5" of you. You have skin, bone, varying tissue densities through your chest. This is a round made for the uneducated, or those impressed with the name ("jesus who wouldn' want the fang face antiterrorist buttplugging round...thats sure to stop"). Super low weight "energy dump" rounds are the magic healing crystals of self-defense ammunition.

You also have to think about where people's bodies are positioned in a situation where you're shooting to defend your life. Generally, hands and arms are going to be up, possibly with something in them. You have to take into account that your shots may have to go though thick clothes (it's winter right now), an arm or two, and maybe an object in their hand. Studies of defense and police shootings have shown that there is very little danger of overpenetration from handgun shootings, but very high danger of MISSING THE TARGET. Basically, what they figured out is that when hit, the target usually doesn't allow the round to escape.

Use a round with at the LEAST 12" of penetration in gel, up to about 18", and learn to use your blasters.

You mean like the 5.7 that has super high speed and about a 4" deep wound channel. It makes a great squirrel round.
