Is it possible to extract device drivers from an OEM Restore CD?

I have a junker eMachine that i am going to try and ressurect (again) but i dont want to use the eMachines Restore CD because i'm wondering if it is causing some of the system problems. I have my own XP CD i want to run... but eMachines doesnt have drivers available for download (for this model at least).

I figure the Restore CD is the best way to attempt to get drivers... thoughts?

If it's a windows restore CD, the drivers should be in i386 like a normal windows cd. Is it just one cd, or is it several?

One... possibly DVD, not CD... but same thing.

I'll try seeing if there's an i386 folder once i'm home tonight... i would i go about identifying the drivers i need?

Put the CD/DVD in the drive. Go to device manager and when you go to install the driver point it to look on the disc.

yeah, in i386 folder. i usually make a copy of the folder and put it on the hard drive of whatever computer im working on, so if i go over that person's house and i don't have my cd with me, i'm not out of luck. although this seemed to be more useful back in the win98 days when it always looked for a cd
now, you can just download everything, but that becomes a problem when your nic doesn't have a driver
drivers.cab seems to have all the drivers

Just install Windows and use Windows Update to download the drivers. Anything on that restore CD is going to be old as hell by now.

Windows update is of no help when i cannot first get the NIC driver off the CD.

Regardless, i got it all working, the system seems stable too... an added bonus. Thanks everyone.
