So I just sold my CoreDuo macbook and the C2D 2.33 is on it's way which gives me the firewire 800. I'm looking for some external storage options. I want ~500gb of space with the fastest option available. I'd like to use bootcamp to boot windows from the drive. As I understand, if I buy this eSATA card ( click here ) then I could get a drive and it would be MUCH faster than Firewire 800. However, I think I would value not having to plug in an external power cord, if possible.

Question: Is there a drive (~500gb) that can be powered from the firewire cable?

What kind of setups do you guys have?

it really all depends if you are going to take your drive with you :dunno:

if it was me, i'd get the eSATA and then get a smaller cap fw800 external drive for portability.

I'd like to make it as portable as possible.
