If I have my external plugged in (22" Samsung Syncmaster 226BW) running in dual monitor mode and close my MBP shell, causing sleep, it will go into sleep, then turn it self back on...which makes my MBP hot and causes some weird shit to happen with iTunes and Safari...

I have insomniax installed but not active...I just nuked that and will see if it works.

any usb devices connected to the computer?

any movement of a mouse would wake the computer up in "clamshell" mode

Yea i read in an apple discussion if you have an usb key board and mouse just close the lid and then wait a few seconds and then it will come up on your external display.

I'm guessing the problem has to do with my USB hub or firewires plugged in? or my bluetooth mouse of keyboard? too many possibilities. oh well.

I have a USB mouse plugged in, but this happens even when the mouse remains still...

    :dunno:

i have the exact same setup as you.. same monitor as well..

usb keyboard and BT might mouse.. if i close the monitor it will go to sleep unless i touch one of the devices ..

however even though your computer runs with the monitor is closed.. it should still be fine.. the heat wont be bad for the monitor or anything.

:nono: I beg to differ. Polymer sheets plastically deform at fairly low temperatures, and the ones in your LCD screen are only a few mils thick. Given that the average MBP CPU temp can climb upwards of 70 degrees C without breaking a sweat, that's about the last thing I would want to put near a screen; my guess is that it would start leaving blotches on the screen over time. Not to mention the fact that a closed lid would further thermally insulate the area, whereas convection would be removing more heat from the topcase if the lid was open.
