If you saw my other thread, I picked up a CompUSA 80GB external hard drive the other day. Now I'm wondering what the longest time I should have this thing running is. I turn it off when I go to bed and I use it mainly to store all of my music. Would it be fine to just let it run all day (12-14 hours), or should I turn it off during the day if I'm not using it? As for heating issue, I have it on top of my desk so it has plenty of room to "breathe".

I have mine (Netdisk ) running all the time, for 2 years now, and never had a problem with it. If you are concerned about failure, install a prog called HDDHealth to monitor it
