My dumbass didn't get a dvd burner with my laptop, so I think I want to get an external model.

Which models are good, but not too expensive?

What specs should I be looking for?

Where's a good place to go for sweet deals on this kind of thing?

Should I just go through dell and have them upgrade my laptop?

You could always buy an internal burner and then get an external enclosure for it. You'll probably save a few bucks too. The external drives seem too expensive. Probably expensive for laptop drives too.

    HTH.

Well I went to the Dell website and an internal DVD burner for my laptop is $199.

How do i go about getting an external enclosure for an internal drive?

And how well will it work with a laptop over USB 2.0?
