So it only happens on the H drive?

What is on this drive? Have you run checkdisk on it?

How is that drive connected? USB? Firewire? It could be a driver issue. Can you borrow another drive of the same interface to see what happens with it?

well you can go into the command line and do the same thing.

    Start->Run->cmd

    and then type

    h:

That should produce the same error. If not, go ahead and type:

    dir

and that should be the directory listings. But I agree with the others, this isn't an explorer issue. And numb nuts who saw "explorer", immediately thought "Internet Explorer" and started down his anti-IE mantra.

Yeah he should spend two grand on a Mac so he can then go out and spend even more on Mac versions of software he already owns, then find out that 1/2 of what he uses doesn't even have a Mac equivalent. Yeah.

I've actually looked into switching but there's several apps I use that simply don't exist for the Mac. Its sad. I'd like to try a Mac but without the software I use, its not going to do me much good. Maybe if Virtual PC weren't so god aweful slow. Maybe next version.....

Sounds like there's a file in the root directory that's choaking explorer. Try all of the files from there to another folder and see what happens.

Okay, then perhaps what is happening is that explorer is trying to preview some of those nasty donkey sex videos that are in the root of the drive that never completed downloading. What you need to do first is goto explorer -> Tools -> Options -> Use Windows Classic Folders and hit apply. Then go to the second tab and select Like Current Folder. Now you should be able to browse the root of H withot crashing.

If not, you can go to the command prompt like I said up there and type:

    h:
    cd \
    dir

that should give you a listing. Then type

    md c:\tempfolder
    move *.* c:\tempfolder

That should move all of the files onto the c drive under tempfolder. Now you can use explorer to browse H. Chances are it will crash on you again if you browse to c:\tempfolder. SO the trick is to figure out which file it's crashing on by copying over the files one by one by one.

But turning off the stupid preview thing is probably going to work so do that first

wow 5gen, i tried the "use windows classic.." and it worked. i got to h:\ fine, and while i was in there, i moved a .rar file out to another folder and deleted an extracted movie with the rars in them, switched back to regular way to view files and now it works fine. THAAAAAAAAANKS soo much. i dunn what i can really give back, but if u want a gmail ill invite u :x
