A&P Explain to me strobing on a flash...

    Ive seen a few people use flashes and they'll go a couple times, the way p&s cameras do. give me a crash course on strobing

    It give the camera a focal point...so when its dark in the room it has nothing to focus on, so it strobes to give the enough light to find the focal point! That and can be used for red eye reduction

    my Canon S2 IS doesn't do that, it has courtain flashes but not strobes.

    I use the strobe on my 580 ex to make drunk people puke (40 bursts at 20 Hz (2 seconds) seems to do the trick) (I'm not kidding).

    I've tried to use it a few times to do a psudo stop motion type deal (runner with motion streak in between frames). I have not yet found a dark enough background to get the subjects to appear solid.

    i dont think strobing is the correct word. if you are talking about how p&s cameras fire 2 times you are talking about ttl flash metering.

    the pre flash is sent out and bounced off the subject and back to the sensor on front of the flash as a reading for how much power needs to be sent out during the main flash.

    same thing happens with pop up flash on a dslr, and external ttl flashes
