    Hello guys,

Am in the military here in Canada, but looking to join a gun club to practice shooting on the handgun, a .9mm. Now I don't want something huge, just small and effective and not too expensive in terms of a semi auto.

I have looked at all the pic threads on here and still undecided. I like the look of this one below and the attachment for light, so any recommendations will have the same

I have a budget of btw 400-500 dollars.

What would you recommend to me please? Names and pics if possible

Ok I'll be the guy to say it.

    You mean 9mm, not .9mm

Calibers given in inches are a fraction of an inch (.22, .25, .30, .38, .40, .45, etc) and calibers in millimeters are given as just millimeters (5.56, 7.62, 9, 10, etc).

    Glock 19
SIG P229R (get the SRT trigger upgrade)
    Smith & Wesson M&P 9

Between those, I'd get the G19 or M&P9 and lean towards the M&P. It's softer shooting, has more capacity, metal guide rod, metal chassis for less flex, interchangeable backstraps, and more natural shooting for some. You would have to get the SIG used or CPO for your budget.

For your price range, a Glock 17 or 19 is going to be the best bet.

The P226 is nice, but you're probably not going to find one under $500 unless you go used.

The old browning is the weapon of choice here from the 60s or 70s.

That might be a good choice. The current Browning marked models might be a little over your budget but I picked up an new FN marked Hi-Power about six months ago for under $500. It had the Cylinder and Slide SFS system factory installed and included three magazines.

You won't find a lot for under $500. I got myself a Norinco copy of a SIG P228 a few months ago for $300, shoots better than any other pistol I've shot.

$500 limits you. Try and save up.

G19 and P229 are 12.6 prohib. You can rebarrelled P229's and G19's that have been registered with a longer (106mm+) bbl. But it looks diff.
And these just started to become more easily available within the last 6 mos.
PM me if you want pointers.

Most ppl have G17's or P226's instead...i.e. fullsize

Your choice, but G17, P226, USP, MP, XD9...all pretty common.
Personal prefs aside, any of these would all make a great first gun.

Try shooting each one before you make your pick. Prob wont be your last one anyways.
