So I tried out an idea for a pic yesterday...not sure if I like it or not. I kept the chairs in the backround to show that it's a reflection...what do you guys think? :wiggle:

I am struggling to understand this.

It's all over the place. I don't know where to look at all. Your DOF is so large you could be taking a picture of the door and I wouldn't know.

I also can't work out where the mirror is, the floor is overexposed, foreground is underexposed... :run:

we're sure we had a guy on a local photo board that got 90ish% of his posted pictures that way. if it wasn't that way, we think he just waved his arm around with the camera in hand holding down the shutter button till he ran out of cf

It's official then, it fails. lol

There is no mirror--it's a tabletop in a cafe. If I got any closer it moved, since it's the reflection of the fan on the ceiling.
And it's supposed to look like an accident, not a posed picture.

You win some, you lose some. Thanks, guys! :bigthumb:

the photo reveals too much. it's obvious what was observed and how it was captured. there is nothing curious about the photo or the situation to make my mind wander. the chairs and objects in the background are distracting also, as well as the overblown doorway. however, this could have been used effectively, since there seems to be some kind of transition of light to dark from the top to the bottom of the image. this transition, in proper context and framing, could perform as a supplement if given the right subject.

reflections are tricky, since they automatically imply the surface as well as a distance from the surface or photographer. this read could be used to obscure the image/content to create mystery, or implicate the photographer him/herself directly to the viewer, collapsing a traditionally critical distance in art between the author and his audience.

try bluring the background to see if it pops more. but I do agree that it really isn't very easy to decipher should we look at it without your "view" on it. I agree that it looks like someone accidently snapped the shutter.
