Anybody know who puts out a good exhuast system that's fairly priced but sounds not obnoxious!

Pretty much looking for a decent sound with possibly a bit more power if possible.

Flowmaster, gibson, magnaflow...any prefered over the other and why? Thanks alot guys you are always helpful. :)

I have a Borla that I got off ebay for about $200 below retail (about $500 shipped), and I am very happy with it, at idle its not much more than stock, but step into WOT and it ROARs.
I have noticed more power through out the powerband too.

My friend has a magnaflow on his truck like mine and its a lot louder even at idle.

Both of these are on a 06 F-150 Supercrew XLT.

magnaflow sounds good. I have a 18" oval 2.5" center in/offset out on my v8 tundra. sounds good.

my magnaflow is silent at idle or at cruising... but punch it and it has a wonderful bark.

But sound is subjective... do what sounds good to you.

ok...so the sound is definitely subjective, any brand give more power than others or is it all pretty relative?

Don't buy an exhaust for performance on a gas-powered truck. It's not going to get you any low-end. From my observations you lose low end.

Exhaust is a mod for sound.

This depends on the truck and design of the exhaust.. magnaflow and borla give you more low end torque on a F-150 where as the Flowmaster you do lose lowend because of the design. It also gives me about 12-15HP too which is a nice increase for the price.

let's keep this simple and avoid the clusterfuck.

to be honest and fair to the OP:

    Everyone does exhaust for sound
Not everyone does exhaust for "performance"
Dyno graphs from the manufacturer are to be taken with a grain of salt
If the graph starts at 3000rpm then don't claim a gain in low-end

It's rather fishy that they won't post their exhuast below 3k, don't you think? I mean they dyno the stock exhaust from idle... Why not do the same with theirs? The logical reason would dicate that their product isn't so desireable in that range -- therefore they focus on the top-end and direct your attention at their "peak" gains; those are rather worthless.

Bottom line: The only real reason to do exhaust is sound. If you expect anything else from it, you will be disappointed. Power/performance/mpg are all poor reasons to choose an exhaust. "Because it sounds good" is a fine choice, however.

And different designs of trucks and different designs of exhaust respective of that truck makes a difference.
JollyOgre has never owned a F-150 and is speculating and assuming when he doesnt know anything about the product.
YOU do get powergains for exhaust across the powerband if you get the right exhaust.
THis has been the case on not one but TWO F-150s with two different types of exhaust.
That is all I am saying, I would say find info related to your kinda of truck (you didnt mention) and see what design and what exhaust is best designed for your ride

You can always go 'ghetto' and slap together something on the cheap. I got two magnaflow catalytics off of Ebay for 50 bucks each, two low buck 'Cherry Bomb' mufflers for $40 each at the local Pep Boys immitator, and had a local shop bend me some pipes for $100 total. So for 300 bucks, my shitty old 305 Chevy has a mean sound and I get quite a few comments about the fully dual (no H Pipe) exhaust that hangs well below the frame.

It does net power.. :mamoru: dont know why you dont see this.

He is probably talking about the installation itself is $200, you still have to buy the exhaust

$200 may get you just a flowmaster muffler installed, but I doubt anyplace is going to give you a 400 exhaust system for $200 installed.

I put two catalytics on it (Magnaflows). I sure hope this thing is emmisions legal. My renewal comes up in about two months.

Meh, if it ain't, I'll canibalize the exhaust off the caprice and take that through emissions, then switch it back.
