My current set up on my Superhawk is with the Leo Vince slip ons. I've had them for about 1 1/2 years. Now I really like how they look on the bike, but I want to get a little bit more sound out of them. They are pretty long, so if I was to cut maybe 1-2" off of an end would this make a difference? I like how they sound until I ride behind another friend of mine who has a shawk with the 2Bros. Then I cant hear mine anymore :o

Thoughts on this bike crew? Good idea or bad idea? :hsd:

and those tires had 200 miles on em, so :fawk: the chickenstrip comments that I know are coming.

I say sell them and buy something else. Don't cut up those nice pipes! I hate the sound of hacked up pipes though, so thats just my opinion.

I didnt think they would sound any different, except maybe a bit louder :dunno:

I kind of dont want to sell them either, mainly because they match really well with the bike :hs:

It would just be shorter, the insides would remain the same though.

The insides would not be the same if they were shorter, because they would be shorter.

    well, yeah :o

Thats not what I meant though. Ive heard of people doing the bafflerectomies on the stock pipes. Im not gonna be bashing anything out, just making it shorter. This makes no sense.... :embd:

You wont lose any performance, if thats what you are asking. I know this because we did few dyno tests on an 03 R1, R6 and other bikes. We compared stock ext. with full aftermarket ext. and without any pipe. dyno results were really close (1-1/2 hp difference)
this in is Ohio. not sure about Cali or Brand new bikes

How the hell would cut the ends off pipes like that? It would look and sound like shit.

If you want it louder, why don't you just bore them out? Or maybe take some of the shit inside of the pipe out?

You should only go for shorties if you need em like that for stunting...

cutting those would be a bitch.
The carbon fiber will not take well to such a procedure.

Just buy some new, shorter cans to attach.

How would you even go about cutting those so they would still work? They are flared on the ends where it connects to the pipe, and if you cut that off, the plate from the pipe will be bigger than the can left. Plus, do you have the machinery to cut it perfectly straight? If not, if they are each a little off from each other, they won't line up with each other anymore. Might as well just buy new pipes, since you'll most likely fuck these up cutting them, and need new ones anyways.

Apparently someone else who rides offering their opinion.

Aftermarket pipes don't have baffles, they are straight through, and if you want to play with the packing. Taking packing out makes the pipe quieter, because more of the exhaust and get through the perforated core and be absorbed by the packing.

You want to make it louder you pack the shit in thier as tight as you possibly can so that very little of the exhaust gas can be absorbed into the packing.

dude, you can take the packing out and repack the mufflers using less packing material. that should make the pipes louder. we took my buddy's gixxer 750 and cut the stock pipe almost in half and it is a lot louder, but his bikes a piece of crap and i wouldn't suggest doing that to your super hawk.

Can you take out the sound material on the inside of the cans?
