    i don't know if this has been covered before.

    okay everyone knows that fat is burned after carbs, carbs (in glucose form) are the first ones to go.

    i read something about exercising in the morning. after a night of sleep your body burns most of your carbs, so if you exercise you will be tapping directly into your stored fat and you'll be losing weight

    this seems pretty logical..? It cant be that easy though, right?

    That is not the right train of thought at all! You could take it a step further and say, hey skip breakfast and lunch then workout at night to maximize weight loss. Your body simply will not peform without the proper care IE: food!. Weight loss will happen with a good balance of exercize and a proper diet, doing it in any other fashion is down right dangerous to your body.

    dangerous=ineffective?

    do you mean that your body will simply lash out at this technique and limit your energy use even more?

    I think you're confusing carbohydrates with calories or something. After sleeping, most of the calories you consumed the day before are either completely burned off or the reserves are stored as fat or muscle. If you run in the morning, since you don't have any readily available calories, your body looks for the next-best thing to make energy out of - your fat, or more likely, your muscle. Unless you need to cut weight quickly to meet weight restrictions for a sport or something, you really shouldn't run on an empty stomach because you'll be losing a lot more muscle than fat.

    dangerous = could be detrimental to you and your health. And yeah, after running for 20 minutes on an empty stomach, you'll feel like shit. If you eat a proper diet and have energy to burn, you should feel great (albeit a little worn down) after a nice run.

    okay i took the most concise explanation from that thread:

    i have no idea what he's talking about :eek3:

    so the pendulum thing... i thought we always use carbs before fat? how much carbs do you have to use before it switches to fat? is this pendulum thing even legit?

    then he says, if it's not legit, it doesn't even matter because burning fat during activity doesn't help lose fat? :confused:

    Baisically fat loss is only determined by staying in deficit from your maintenance calories. You could run 10 miles a day and if your are still above your maintenance cals food wise your gaining weight.

    1. no, you don't always you carbs for fuel before fat
    2. it doesn't really work like that
    3. yes, it's legit
    4. eat less calories than you burn in a day = lose fat
