Excuse me, I'd like to buy your B-52

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A wealthy Russian tried to buy a U.S. B-52 bomber from a group of shocked American pilots at an airshow near Moscow, a Russian newspaper reported Friday.

The unidentified Russian, wearing sunglasses and surrounded by bodyguards, approached the U.S. delegation and asked to buy the bomber, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper said.

An astounded member of the U.S. delegation said the bomber was not for sale but that it would cost at least $500 million if it were to be sold on the spot.

"That is no problem. It is such a cool machine," the Russian was quoted as saying by the newspaper, which said its reporter overheard the conversation. The bomber was not sold.

Russia's new rich, who built fantastic fortunes trading commodities and contacts after the fall of the Soviet Union, have made a name for themselves as ostentatious purchasers of everything from British football clubs to Faberge eggs.

Nope, I imagine its tight and cramped as is but could probably be converted to something pretty nice if you gutted out the stuff a civilian wouldn't need.

    I guess.

You would be much better off with a 737 or something though.

Hell with a 52 you probably wouldnt need to refuel to goto most places, isn't the range something like 10k miles? Still too slow for me though if I got 500m to spend on a plane probably wouldnt be to hard to find some russian air force general to sell a tu160.

I think it's about 7000 miles. Jamie would know though.

If I had unlimited money I would rather have an F-4, or an F-111 I really like both of those aircraft. :hs:

F111 is cool, if I ever had the money to blow on some expensive plane I'd get a MiG25, mach 3+ and can go up into the lower atmosphere :coold: Not much range though and the engines have to be rebuilt/replaced frequently :hs:

The MiG25 is cool too. They (from what I've read) built that to chase the SR-71. The engine failure comes from mach 3 flight. Too much vtec yo :mamoru:

Yeah designed as the answer to the Valkerie and SR71, it'll do mach 3+ for awhile but anything over something like 2.5 would do permanent damage to the engines.

The XB-70 is probably the scariest looking airplane ever. An oter went to the wp museum and took pics of the one they have there.:bowdown::bowdown:

Nasa DFRC has some great pictures of it too if you are interested.
