A&P excessively long autofocus... takes forever, never actually focuses

    It's a shitty lens and you're probably using it in low light.

    Low light - or your focus mode is on AI Servo :mamoru:

    you can try cleaning the electronic contacts on the lens / body

    check to make sure you're not in AI servo

    clean the contacts

    are you trying to focus in low light

    the kit lens isn't really known for it's awesome focusing abilities

    cliffs on this :o x 11ty
    sometimes it will focus fine, other times it will go in and out forever and never focus

    got it all cleaned out by a professional, still happening :
    i thought it was low light, but it happened yesterday at high noon... bright as fuck, shooting a fully exposed car

    if you got it cleaned by a professional, dont you think you could have asked them to check out the focusing problem?

    try a different lens.

    they were doing it for free at the camera shop, i mentioned it to him he was like, well, it might be dirt on the AF sensors... i dunno
