what would cause a canon 350d with the stock lens to do this
it's a canon dude
It's a shitty lens and you're probably using it in low light.
yeah canon is known for shitty slow autofocus
Low light - or your focus mode is on AI Servo
you can try cleaning the electronic contacts on the lens / body
check to make sure you're not in AI servo
clean the contacts
are you trying to focus in low light
the kit lens isn't really known for it's awesome focusing abilities
that's like asking why a kid in a wheelchair can't run a 40 yard dash
cliffs on this x 11ty
sometimes it will focus fine, other times it will go in and out forever and never focus
got it all cleaned out by a professional, still happening :
i thought it was low light, but it happened yesterday at high noon... bright as fuck, shooting a fully exposed car
if you got it cleaned by a professional, dont you think you could have asked them to check out the focusing problem?
try a different lens.
they were doing it for free at the camera shop, i mentioned it to him he was like, well, it might be dirt on the AF sensors... i dunno
