I've been wondering about this. I love Nikon glass, but fuck it's expensive.

    :werd:

so many other great alternatives out there for a few hundred less, each.

I sold my D40 to get a D50, just so I could use Tamron and Tokina, as well as non AF-S and HSM lenses.

I dunno, but Im getting the Sigma 10-20 soon for my canon. If I were able to use EF-S lenses I would get the canon, but whatever.

i think sigma's 70-200 2.8 is supposed to be pretty good and is a couple hundred less than canon's

:hsugh: Not always. And I have been finding out lately with Nikon glass that there are some worth the money, and others that are not that have 3rd party glass that is better.

The Sigma 70.200 f/ 2.8 HSM should be on that list, I have it and I think its pretty damn sharp, and focuses lightening fast on my D300.

I'm sure Nikon makes good glass. But that doesn't mean the other 3rd parties don't have a few good eggs.

I've used both extensively, and I've got to disagree.

The Sigma 50-150/2.8 is badass though. It's really, really nice.

    Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
    Tokina 12-24 f/4
    Sigma 70-200 f/2.8
    tamron 28-75 f/2.8

Those are the only ones i've used that i'd consider to be excellent lenses.

I sold my D40 last friday and bought a D50 from someone else. I feel kinda liberated :hs: not having to just look only at AF-S and HSM lenses.

but you can join the Sigma 10-20 crew

Will a noob notice the not-so greatness of a sigma compared to the nikon lens?
