Excel Version problem

    Hey im doing some work at school on excel 2000. I came home to finish it off but the file had problems loading. I have excel 2002 and it loads undreds of dodgy characters and useless text up. Whats matter with it?

    prolly a corrupt excel file... hope you have another copy still at school.

    Yeah later versions of Excel should be able to read previous versions fine. It is when you go the other way around that you run into problems. It does sound like a corrupted file...you didn't happen to have it saved on a floppy disk did you?

    I had this problem before...

    I'm not sure if Excel 2002 has this option, but I know 2003 does.

    Go to File -> Open. Select the file you want to open and next to the open button there is a down arrow. Click that and there should be an option to open and repair. See if that works.

    I used it last week to try and recover a pretty large spreadsheet. I was able to get all of the data back, but some of the formatting was missing. Overall, I was pretty impressed with it.

    its on a flash USB drive. ill try what cmfsurfer says and report back. Thanks.

    edit: hmm that didnt work, it comes up with a "text import wizard" Any ideaS?
