I don't know how to phrase this so I can't Google it.

Ok, this just started happening so I must've accidentally changed a setting or something.

Say I have a cell in Excel that I have copied (ctrl+c) so it's got the broken line border going around it:

Now say I'm doing something on a webpage in Firefox, and I need to copy some info from the website and paste it into Excel. I highlight what I need in Firefox, copy it (ctrl+c), and go paste it into a new cell in Excel.

What used to happen was the information was pasting correctly.

What is happening now is that it will paste the old information from the Excel cell that I copied from before.

In other words, when a cell has been copied in Excel, when I try to copy something in another application, it is NOT overriding what Excel has copied.

It even does this when I do a cut as well. I figured surely a "cut" command would override what is currently copied in Excel, but it's not.

I know for sure something weird is going on because a few months ago I would watch the dashed-line border of the Excel cell go away when I copied something in another program. Now that no longer happens.

How do I fix this? It's driving me fucking nuts.

CTRL-C twice in excel is one way (by default).

That brings up the clipboard. I need to make it so that I can copy things outside of Excel (such as in MSWord or FireFox) when something is currently copied in Excel, and have it forget whatever is copied in Excel and then let me use ctrl+v to paste the thing I just copied from MSWord or Firefox.

    Right now it's like this:

    Copy something in Excel
Copy something else in MSWord or Firefox
    ctrl+v
    the thing from Excel pastes.

Try opening Excel in safe mode - hold down the CTRL key while opening excel.

Now it's keeping things that were copied in Excel separate. So like I have "abc" copied in Excel, and then I copy something in Firefox (call it "xyz"). I can paste "xyz" anywhere, but if I go back to Excel and hit ctrl+v it pastes "abc."

what the fuck? it never used to do this.

Normally I wouldn't care but I have to do a lot of copying and pasting to and from Excel and this issue is causing me to make a ton of mistakes and also adding extra keystrokes (having to hit Esc in Excel before I can copy something somewhere else to paste into Excel) which is increasing the time it takes me to complete what I have to do.

Just reinstall Office at this point - I don't know why it's not sharing the clipboard but that's what I would do.

And holy crap, 10 year old technology - no wonder. It's probably a windows update that secures the clipboard or some shit.
