Both are good beginner bikes, but the SV will keep you happy longer.

my first was a sv650.... i would recommend that. I later rode a friends ex500 and it felt like a moped... The sv is very forgiving to learn on and has more than enough power to keep you satisfied

I've had an SV for two seasons, and I'm still on it. EX's are also air cooled I believe.

SV, I can't even believe you would debate it.

The ER6N is only avliable in the UK.
The EX650 is the ER6N chassis, and engine, with a faring.

    Same thing.

And considering we dont get the ER6N in the US, the next closest competetor to the SV is the EX650.
