So I went into walmart today to pick up some 9mm ammo, as I do all the time. In Minnesota where I live if you want center fire ammo generally for pistols you have to be 21, or if you say it's for a rifle you have to be 18. I've bought box after box of 9mm ammo from multiple different stores over the years, not being 21. So this bastard in walmart was like "I can't sell you this ammo, you need to be 21" so I said "It's for a rifle"... get this! he said "Theres no such thing as a 9mm rifle, I'm not going to sell you these rounds" At this point I was kinda pissed, because by law I can buy them, if I inform them it's for a rifle. So I continue to say it's for a Ruger Carbine 9mm rifle. Then I started to name some other 9mm rifles, one being the AR-15. He then pretty much flat out told me I was a lier... I was pretty shocked. So I went into detail about the AR-15 in 9mm, all the while he was shacking his head saying "no they don't" I said to him "Do you even know what the hell your talking about??" then he got this pissed off face... and told me he was an "Ex-Marine weapons specialist" and there wasn't any 9mm rifles. Then it got worse... I said "Then why the hell you working at walmart? Maybe it's because you don't know jack shit". Then I had to leave, via the manager.

Don't worry though, the story has a happy ending. I went to Joe's sporting goods and got the bullets from someone who knew the laws, and guns.

I'm not sure what the law is in your state, but as far as I know, 9mm is pistol ammo. You might have a carbine that shoots it, but that is a rifle that is designed to shoot a pistol round. I wouldn't have sold it to you either.

I noticed when buying ammo at wal-mart that is commonly a handgun caliber the register asks if it is for a rifle or handgun, then it asks to verify age. I've wondered if they put that it is for rifle, if it will ask to verify age over 18. I know when I was under 21 I bought .22LR which is common in rifles and pistols all the time by saying it was for a rifle. The only ammo I buy at wal-mart is the 100 round Winchester value packs in .40 and .45 so I don't know if it asks the same question for rifle specific ammo

Yea when it scans 9mm it asks if it's for a rifle or pistol, like the countless times before when I've bought 9mm there. This cock sucker still wouldn't sell it....

yeah, i have the same problem every now and then. you have one or two guys that feel the need to be a hero. it's gotten to where my friend just walks in with me, stands off behind me, and if they say anything like that, and won't listen to me, theni hand him the money, and he just buys it, then hands it right to me before taking a step away from the counter.

i agree that they policy is that if the ammo CAN be used for a pistol, it's not to be sold to anyone under 21, however, i disagree with the policy itself. i think you should be able to own a pistol at 18, and of course buy the ammo.

  21. "because by law I can buy them, if I inform them it's for a rifle."

That is the law allegedly...so wouldn't that mean he could buy them?

If you want the coup de grace, only a dishonorably discharged Marine would go by the term "ex-Marine".

If he was a real Marine, he'd say "former Marine" or just "Marine". :eek3:

the real injustice is that 18 year olds can own pistols in many states, but cant buy the ammo for them
