I just got my light stands and wanted to try them out. Found an empty business park and setup the crap. Right after I setup some shady cars showed up so we didnt stay long

The car was parked at an awkward angle. Not enough light in the front. :hs: There was yellow ambient light which I managed to get rid of mostly

    420ex on left
    550ex on right
    1/30 @ f/5.6

If I exposed longer you would see more yellow.

position speedlites higher to move the shadows down

increase juice on speedlites to expose the car more

the 420ex isnt adjustable so there isnt much I can do with that one, but the 550ex was at 1/1. Should I move them closer and higher? Should I point them directly at the car instead of a 45* angle? They were about 6' off the ground.

    The shadows are heavily distracting.

Try long exposure and run around the car with the flash...

Don't park next to a wall. That will help to eliminate pesky shadows. Try to find a more interesting background for your pics. Use available light to help light the background (long exposure) and your flashes to light the car. While most cars look best when lit with diffused light, you can use your flashes unmodified, however you'll end up with some specular highlights that may or may not bother you. Personally, I don't find them all that distracting.

Werd. 1/30 seems too quick for the lighting situation.

Adjust the stand higher. This will move the shadow down (same effect as a flash light bracket).

Keep them angled at 45 degrees. It'll reduce the amount of reflection on the paint. I prefer to use a higher power and keep them further back so that the light spread is wider.

It really depends on your settings and flash power.

Shot would work better if the car was framed on the left side, leaving more space in the direction it is facing.

I love how smooth the light is on your car. Mine was a bit harder to try and get softer light due to the darker color. I can't wait to re-shoot this shot with my new lights and softboxes.
