Great movie. Not your typical horror, but very, very well done.

    Yeah, that's the one.

It's pretty much a worst-case scenario. They do have a gun, but the guy doesn't know how to use it. The couple is pretty naive and terrified. :hs: But if you can keep from going "What the fuck are you thinking, don't do that!!!" it's great. In fact, even if you do pick it apart like that (I did), it's still pretty awesome.

And it features "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard prominently. Which gets bonus points. :big grin:

And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole.
No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried.
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied.
That leaves only me to blame 'cos Mama tried.

    Great song...

    It is. :eek3:

I need to watch it again to confirm, but I came away thinking that it was one of the scariest movies I've seen in a while.

The atmosphere is the best part of this movie. It's creepy as fuck, even before anything ever goes wrong. The acting is great, the shots are great, and the music? Damn. You know how upbeat-sounding music can make a scary atmosphere even more creepy and surreal? Well this movie is the champion of that. Merle makes really scary stalking background music.

You heard wrong, sir. brock3931 and I both said the same thing: It's brilliantly done, and there are only two tiny, nitpicky negatives about it. I'm going to be buying the DVD.

And no, no info. It's part of the "this is a true story about an unsolved crime" bit.

Apparently it's inspired by this actual murder case. :noes:

Hell yes, dude. I wanted to cuddle my .45 the whole time. It's one of those that makes you think "thank GOD I'm armed."

i went camping with my GF and some other friends at Big Sur at the start of our summer break. i was debating it for a bit, but right before we left i threw my sig p226 and 2 mags of 124gr +p gold dots into my bag.

never even brought it out, but just knowing it was there was in the back of my mind.

Honestly, I don't know how people can leave civilization (camping, hiking, cross-country trip, whatever) without a gun. No matter how advanced your city is, no matter if you have all the comforts of home, wilderness is still wilderness. There are still animals, and there are still bad people. That will never change.

I always have a gun in the car with me, but especially when I go camping, I always pack a rifle just in case. If you never need it, you brought along a few extra pounds. If you do need it, though, you saved your own life.

I'm going to buy it just for the people who criticize my keeping a gun in the house view. Great movie.

I can't relate to it because I'm either armed or there's a gun nearby when I'm home. Had the same problem with Vacancy since I'm typically traveling with what most would consider to be a small arsenal.

When you watch it, imagine that you were caught completely off-guard, and for some inexplicable reason, you can't get to your guns. Like maybe you live in Massachusetts. :mamoru:

    It helps.

I just read through their message board...

Jesus, they are all lying and cheating and stealing. Sounds like a super small community that was riddled with meth addicts that all know what happened and are covering for each other, by playing this "he did it she did it" bullshit.

Fuck 'em it's their own fault. Don't hang around scum bags, and keep a gun and shit like this won't happen to you.

I confess to being somewhat skeptical.

Still, I suppose it's possible. The timeline on that site is pretty fucking crazy.
