I always use Transmit. One of the greatest FTP programs I've used. I'm going to try out a new one called ForkLift. We'll see how that goes.

Lets say I have Transmit and a friend has it... How would I go about sending him a 2GB file over Transmit? What information would he need of mine?

You don't both need Transmit. He'd need to enable FTP access on his Mac (via the System Preferences) and you could then enter his IP address (make sure he sets up port forwarding to his machine and port 21 if he has a router and enables it via the firewall if he's running Leopard). It'd be best for him to create you an account on his machine and you could then login using that login and password.

Transmit is one of the best FTP programs out there.

Do you know what FTP is?

.mac has absolutely NOTHING to do with that.

No you don't need .Mac, that is only required for the Back To My Mac function in Leopard. As long as you know your IP address (ipchicken.com can tell you that) you're set.
