I took photos at a 40th birthday party and it looks like I may get a few more gigs. It was a college friend of my wife's so I just shot the pics, made some edits on PS and burned a DVD for her. I don't plan to just give away the pics for other people and I wanted to know the best way to distribute them.

I saw Shutterfly Pro and it looks like a good setup. I also thought about just charging x% markup from whatever Walgreens charges. Again, these are mostly going to be birthday parties so people won't need the whole shebang of wedding album quality photos.

For you guys who shoot events, how much do you make off the prints compared to how much you made for booking the event?

0%. I charge up front, and let people take care of themselves when it comes to prints. I make this clear when I shoot an event.

I don't like helping people order prints, and I don't mind not getting paid for it.

Do you just give them a DVD and that's that?

I was looking in to this, how is it working out for you?

Do you think you get your money's worth for that site?

Sometimes I give them a DVD, other times I put the images up on my website from which they can download the full size versions. Sometimes I do both. I put them up on my site as well because it seems like about 20% of the time the people lose the DVD.

When I'm done with a shoot, I want to be done with it. It's amazing still though people will get in touch with me MONTHS after a shoot with questions about ordering prints and shit.

If you leave yourself open to help every client you've ever worked with, it will pile up eventually. I don't have the patience for that.

My business model will be either like yours or I'll look into the SmugMug thing. Anything that doesn't involve me waiting for people to order and then dropping off photos later. Are your prices on your site? If so, link please...
