im after a new laptop that i can game on it (like cs/call of duty), watch movies use photoshop etc.. what sort of specs should i be after, how many ghz? how much ram? memory etc.

also ive been using XP all my life, should i change to vista? what are the pros/cons of it compared to normal XP

any brands to look out for? any brands to avoid?

also what do you think is a reasonable amount of time for warranty, 1 year?

Almost all manufactures will give you a 1 year limited warranty.

As for choosing XP or vista, personally I'd wait until SP1 comes out for Vista. Unless you don't care about using old software, then just go with vista.

there is no real reason to upgrade to vista just yet unless you are buying a computer that won't run XP (i think there are some sony laptops that only really work with vista). i'd recommend finding something that can run vista, but get XP and wait for SP3 which is supposedly bringing a lot of vista features to XP.

oh, and i'd look for a Core2Duo laptop. i have one for my MacBook Pro and it runs amazing. get 2Gb of memory or more as well as a decent video adapter in it.

i'm currently looking at a laptop with the following:

    CPU: core 2 duo T7300 2Ghz
OS: Vista Buisness (although i might ask for XP)
    RAM: 2GB DDR2
    HD: 160GB
Graphic: Nvidia 8400M <---- have no idea on this, how does it fare?
    screen: 15.4"
WiFi 11 "N" Inbuilt 1gb NAND flash <---- no idea on these 2 things either
dvd burner, webcam, bluetooth, fingerprint reader

is this covering everything? any thing that i should upgrade or anything that ive not mentioned and should check out?

    thanks.

 sorry, just found this funny. are you 12?

    just messin.

Those specs seem decent. My brother just got a lenovo with almost exact specs other than video card but he doesn't game at all.

9 cell battery if you plan on using it without ac power alot or maybe an adapter for the car.
He also got his with vista ultimate. Just get vista, don't listen to the 2% of idiots whining about it. It works.
