I have a early 2009 MBP and two external drives with eSATA. Quick browse of Amazon shows cards are only around $40. Any recommendations on brands/models?

also, would an external expresscard soundcard make sense to have if it exists?

Myself and my boss both have the FirmTek SeriTek 2SM2-E. Works great. Had 2 eSATA ports on it so you can run 2 devices at a time. Unlike some other cards you can boot from it. I use it frequently to backup my MBP. Get throughput of around 66MB/sec. FirmTek is a great company that provides good support. They provided Snow Leopard drivers about 2 weeks after it's releases which is good considering that it required the drivers to be totally re-written. Downside is the price. It is spendy compared to some of the cheap cards out there.
