like the Requiem for a Dream song or the Sin City theme. anyone know others that you had to hop online and download right after you heard them?

    for movies, no.
for epics the musical term for long songs that tell a story:
    pink floyd - echoes
pink floyd - the wall (whole album)
yes - tales from topographic oceans (whole album)
yes - close to the edge (the song)

Well if that's the case give some Tiesto or Ferry Corsten a listen. Might be wrong though.

One classic epic that a lot of people today aren't familiar with:

"Happiness is a Warm Gun" - The Beatles

It's badass... doesn't sound like your typical Beatles song, but it supposedly inspired Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway, etc.

Lots of people would recognise it from Bowling for Columbine.

Great song, it goes from one extreme to another.

I dunno if that's what you mean, but it reminds me of a shootout slow-mo action flick. It was in a Max Payne 2 mod called Cinema..

Nightwish has some of the most epic songs I've heard, especially on their newest "Once" album. Just listen to Planet Hell and Ghost Love Score
