I have to shoot environmental portraits for one of my classes. I tried out that technique from the strobist dvd where he gels the flash with a CTO, and sets the WB to Tungsten to get that "cold" look

    Also played with FP flash:

    Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION
    Camera Model: NIKON D700
    Image Date: 2009:02:04 15:49:29
Flash Used: Yes (Manual, return light not detected)
    Focal Length: 50.0mm (35mm equivalent: 50mm)
    Exposure Time: 0.0001 s (1/8000) :mamoru:
    Aperture: f/3.2
    ISO equiv: 500
    White Balance: Manual
    Light Source: Incandescent
    Metering Mode: Matrix
    Exposure: Manual
    Exposure Mode: Manual

hrmm, looks too cool(wb wise) to me. the snow speaks for itself on how "cold" it is. its not like its cyanotype but feels like you were inching towards it

maybe if you had a different shirt on, because the red sticks out like a sore thumb. (the red label on the shovel seems tinted with blue)

k, point taken. I think the problem was that it missed his face too much (flash looks like it his his shirt more). Thanks.

FP flash. You can do it too, Girth. Go to sync speed under your menu and hit 1/320 FP.

First time I tried it. I forgot my triggers at home so I had to improvise...learned something new.

And as far as ISO500, ISO 100 was not sensitive enough so the flash wasn't even showing apparent, and I didn't wanna shoot wide open. Besides, it's not like it was gonna be noisy at that ISO :mamoru:

What I'll prob. do is mask him so he's a little more color balanced and tone down the blue a little so it's not so :eek4:

You lose a lot of flash power with auto-fp high speed sync. And you have to use a compatible Nikon flash as far as I know.

Yup, SB-600 or SB-800 are the only ones I think. And it is true, you lose a lot of flash power. From now on Ill prob. only use it if I want a shallow DOF. The one of my blue friend could have been done without FP, I guess I just wanted to use it cause I could :mamoru:

Yo, bitches love flannel :coolugh: lol

I might shoot a project with a shallow DOF + flash for one of my classes. I feel like it'll help me learn how to use that feature.

This will prob. be the one I print. I cant really change his hung-over and high look but I think it's more color balanced.
