I'm thinking about joining the navy but i was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia in 10/04 and possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana in 04/05 and i was wondering if this would prevent me from joining. also i want to do MC and i think that needs a secret security clearance.

talk to your recruiter. you might be able to get a waiver. I work with people with TS clearances who've been in worse trouble than that.

Marijuana shouldn't even be considered a drug lol, ignore Koby his bitching

I would just go ahead and try to see what a recruiter can do, I enlisted with a couple of charges myself (neither drug related) and they just ran some court checks and cleared me.

Don't fucking lie about it. They WILL catch you during the investigation for your clearance, and you can get in trouble for lying when you enlisted. Just tell them what is up when you join and make sure its in your record. You will just have to get a waiver, which won't be too hard. If the offense was on your juvie record you really won't have a problem because those records are sealed.

talk to you recruiter, ask for moral waiver. you might have to enlist with a shitty non clearance holding initial rating...then once you are eligible to reenlist you can reclass

at least thats how i ahve seen it work in the army

also DO NOT lie about your past, you will get caught in boot. i used to be cadre at army boot and we kicked out several people for having prior felonies they neglected to mention

FWIW, I have some criminal traffic from 5+ years back and that was a guilty plea and that has proven a barrier to any clearance possibilities. My recruiter indicated arrests alone would not made much of a difference. Though you have a lot less time between, you might be ok. Take it for what it's worth, as I'm neither in the military yet nor a recruiter. Good luck.

I dont know about the marines, but it seems like nowadays everyone in the navy has a secret clearance. Especially if your E6+, you just say you need it for casreps and they'll hand it to you on a platter. From the marines on the boat, it doesn't seem as bad of a hand-me-out, but theres still a shitton of people that probably dont need it that have it.

you can get waivers for drug use, and as long as you tell them on the ssbi, you'll be fine.
