Has anyone here done it, and how long does it take? I know it is based on many things, but jus tgive me a general idea? Do enlisted officer hopefuls have to compete with civilian officer hopefuls? Or do they promote from within more generously?

I can't answer any of those questions, but I can tell you that mustangs get more respect from the enlisted ranks.

Yes, not in great depth. It seems hard to find anything related to what I want. I am finding some very helpful information about the enlisted promotion system though, just nothing on the jump form enlisted to officer.

Sorry. A mustang is someone who goes from the enlisted ranks to officer. Having prior experience as an enlisted service member, they are able to better understand the abilities and limitations of the enlisted members than most officers who became officers after graduating from an academy or college. They are generally looked upon as more intelligent, more capable, and more experienced than other officers.

civilians go through ROTC, enlisted have the green to gold active duty and scholarship option. If you are interested there is a deadline for turning in your packet by October 1st I believe. Just go to goarmy.com and you can download the info/packet. It's about 41 pages but it'll tell you all you need to know.
