I'm going through my first engagement shoot to start editing shots, I was wondering how many photos you guys usually end up with when all is set and done for a normal e-session?

for my first few engagements I provided an average of like 30 fully edited photos. but it depends on what you told them and how much you charged

I take from 200-400 total pictures and tell them to expect about 30% to end up in their hands.

I take about the same amount, I usually deliver 20-40 shots.

    20-30? damn.

I ended up giving them about 70-80 because they wanted others for reception slideshows and such. But I have a hard time deleting photos so I always give more than less. And since what I think is good is different from what they think is good, it works out for both parties.

couples get crazy excited at the time of the engagement

its not too expensive for them in the grande scheme of things

and it lets them feel out a photographer to potentially use for their wedding

    I deliver around 150-300 pics. But I only fully edit/retouch a handful.

I offer them as part of my higher package... and I think I'm going to start including it for the others as well... the reason is it gets us comfortable with each other before the wedding. that way the shots seem more natural... it also gives me the opportunity to see what angles work, and don't.

For the couple, it gives them material to use for save the date cards, or also for album images.

I do around 40 as well. Depends on how things go really. Its pretty easy to shoot about 300 frames, but even in 40 there are a lot of near duplicates. Subtle enough differences for me to include them, but someone really picky might toss them as well.
