How often do movies live up to the books? Let's just say I want it to be good, but I won't surprised if it's not.

As long as they get Orson Scott Card to work on the script (which, last I heard, they were) it should be pretty good.

I read the book back in '93 and didn't realize there were sequels until high school a few years later. Read and bought all of them, then have been buying his new parallel series since (I think he released book 4 in the series a couple months ago).

I've loved all of them. Required reading for anyone who remotely likes sci-fi books, or even politically charged books

I'm not confident at all. The writer is the same guy who "adapted" Troy from the Iliad and put Achilles in the Trojan Horse. :ugh:

I'm sure they'll take out the fight in the showers, and I'm sure they'll get the battle room totally wrong.

This is one of my favorite books ever, but because there will so many child actors, it will be a real challenge to make it work.

Well, it's not like they had Homer sitting with them helping them write Troy like they have Orson Scott Card helping them write this movie

hopefully they will make it well. I could be a good director. I actually have imagination.

That's no sure thing. William Gibson wrote the screenplay for Johnny Mnemonic and screwed up his own story. :/

:werd:.. i'd have more faith if it was a cgi movie.. I don't think there are enough good kid actors around to fill all the needed characters..

and there's still no way it'll be as good as the books

They only need one good one. Most of the children weren't as precocious as Ender.

The writing is not what I'm concerned about... I'll forgive dramatic liberties. I consider a movie a visual representation of a literary work, and therefore a completely different entity. (Doesn't mean I don't think books are better most of the time :wiggle: )

I'm worried about Peterson fucking it up. I don't like his directing style.

I will correct myself and give Peterson credit on Das Boot. But other than that, it's too bad Kubrick isn't alive. I loved his vision of a Clockwork Orange, and even 2001.

I'm just hoping instead of going the way of Jonny Mnemonic, it goes the way of SinCity ;)

I know it's not a sure thing, but we'll see. I at least have faith, and I agree with the poster about not requiring it to be exactly the same. The people who bitch about LotR not being close enough to the books can suck it. Those movies were masterpieces whether you've read the books or not. That's the way it SHOULD be.
