your friend is an idiot. They have lots of levels, you can up the level which makes it harder if its too easy. Ellipticals are very low impact and are a total body workout, running of course is a lot harder, so thats why you coudln't do it. Next time you are on an elliptical, check your heart rate...is it up? then its working.

I think elipticals are a good source of entertainment while at the gym. You ever see people on those things; they look funny as hell.

I have horrible knees due to snowboarding like a jackass when I was a teenager. Running in general is not an option for me.

I can get my heart rate past 170bpm on an elliptical if I push myself.

They are a good form of cardiovascular activity.

Running at my weight beats my joints up and I hate it so I just jump on an elliptical for steady state cardio or interval work.

Exactly! I hit it everyday for 15-20 minutes at about 180-195 strides per minute. I can keep my heart rate around 145bpm, and I sweat my ass off. It also is easier on you, if you had any back, knee or leg injury in the past.
    HIIT FTW!
