    It seems to me that if you pay a fighter a knockout bonus before the fight happens, that you are quite clearly paying or bribing the fighter to stand.
    What was supposed to happen if Seth took the fight to the ground, and the fight ended there? Would he have to refund Elite XC the knockout bonus?
    Awarding the bonus before the fight happens makes no sense whatsoever. The fight could have ended many other ways. But the disturbing point remains: Seth was given money before the fight to end the fight standing.

    Yeah but I think the difference this guy is bringing up is that if you're given the money beforehand you are almost obligated to stand and try to keep it rather than ending a fight by sub or ko and win the bonus afterward.

    Maybe it was just bad wording and he meant to say that for taking the fight they gave him a bonus equal to what KO of the night would be.

    mebbie, but in the UFC they are just bonouses for finishing. you can win one for strikeing and one for submissions. and theres only one of each per night, so its not garunteed you even win one.

    even if thats the case, its saying, if you knock him out you get a bonus. that means they obviously want it to keep standing. if you give enough of a bonus, you might as well call it a fucking boxing match at that point, because he wouldnt take it to the ground.

    People like watching knockouts :dunno: Im sure alot of baseball players get homerun bonuses and basketballers get dunk bonuses. Its entertainment, people want to be entertained promoters want to provide this.

    Typically those bonuses are paid after you achieve the feat.

    I think you are correct sir. People seem to be taking it out of context, all he was trying to say (as I see it) is giving petruzzeli some money to scrap the fight he was preparing for, go up a weight division, and fight someone else an hour before the fight. "Whoever can help us out here and fill the spot for us, we'll give you 5 grand" or something like that ya know?

    That's how I see it anyways

    It was just part of the deal of getting him to accept the fight. If he would've submitted him, he would still have the bonus, it was just a sum of money to give him as incentive to accept the fight on that short of notice.

    At least I'm pretty sure that's what he's saying

    Im sure theres nothing out of the ordinary to be honest Im sure every promoter gives out a few 'make it entertaining' under the table encouragement donations.

    I wonder if this is a big misunderstanding and the pre-fight KO of the night bonus was for petruzelli to get ktfo

    I can, thanks. All I'm thinking was that they said "Hey, whoever wants to fight Kimbo tonight will get their purse plus a knockout bonus for accepting on short notice"

    You think they woulda taken it away if he didn't knock Kimbo out? What's the point of giving it to him before the fight then anyways? I'm not so sure about that. I'm also not so sure that if it is what you think, than they would have openly admitted it like that. I think it's just a misunderstanding of words, just takin it outta context.

    That's not extreme enough. It can't be a normal bonus, it's gotta be a "knockout bonus", you know, connecting with the target audience.

    wherther they gave seth a premature ko bonus;
    a bonus cause they thought he was gonna get ktfo;
    a bonus just to show up which they just so happen to call a ko bonus;

    They should have never have named it a ko bonus cause it means either they
    a) wanted him to "stand and trade" with him OR
    b) are just plain retarded and called it that not thinking about the implications a comment like that could have made by it being taken out of context.

    Either way, fucking stupid move on their part.

    when it was just seth and $kala, or his dad or the other guy, whoever the heck it was in privacy, why call it a ko bonus then??

    there is no target audience around at the time.

    Its one thing to give a bonus for finishing someone but to give a KO bonus and not a submission bonus seems shady. Promoters shouldn't be allowed to give specific bonuses because it encourages, or sometimes even forces, fighters to fight the way their promoters want them to.

    Finishing bonuses say, "give us an exciting fight." But a KO-only bonus like the one Seth was given says, "we want you to lose and we think Kimbos got a better chance at winning if its a standup only fight, so plz keep it standing."

    It's like telling KJ Noons theyll give him a big bonus if he subs Nick Diaz, but he'll get no bonus if he KOs/TKOs him.
