shoulda listened and gotten the trainer as well...

I can get it a few times with my right, once with my left

I figured you know, after having dl'd 500 a couple of months ago I'd have more strength than that, I guess it's just holding strength tho

so.... negatives and order a trainer should be a good route to take, no?

    you think your grip sucks?

my left hand has a hard time closing the spring clips you use to put at the end of the barbell.

I crush the #3 for about 3 reps with my right and I can barely get the #2 for 2
    with my left

I think you're fine. I only use my HG150 for a few warm up reps. I hardly touch my one anymore.

Do some holds for time and you'll do fine for now.

    Will do...

should all of my holds start with a single-handed close, or is it okay to do some assisted-close holds too?

Do whatever you need to to get it closed, pushing into your thigh, use two hands whatever works. But just use one hand to try and keep it closed. If it opens up a little its ok just keep it as close to shut as you can for slow 5 count.

do some leveraging...sledgehammer 4, 6 or 10# & cheap; clubells (more difficult and a little different)

edit: and make sure you are taking enough time off between your gripper work....in general the smaller the muscle group the longer it will take to recover
