Do you use anything on it to get rid of this? It's not bad, just slightly discolored..
Discoloration or rust?
Don't want to hijack but I've noticed some ugly markings on my brass deflector - any suggestions on how to prevent this?
What? you actually take it out of the safe and shoot it? You're not supposed to do that with an AR!
But if you must shoot it, you should put a layer of electrical tape on the brass deflector so it doesn't get any marks from ... well... deflecting brass
Chances are it probably wasn't parkerized properly, or it was done lightly. I would see if you can rub the rust/discoloration off with some oil and a rag then pick up some lithium grease and give it a very light coating.
I guess a little bit of rust
I just scrub it with steel wool after I'm done shooting, takes the brass marks right off.
You, sir, should try some Hoppes and a brass bristle brush.
If you had jsut bought a Noveske upper this wouldn't have happened
