Beautiful beaches, water sports, AFSOC, spring break, short drive to casinos, and hurricanes.

Ft. Walton Beach and Destin are 2 of my favorite places on Earth. In October, over in Niceville, they have the annual Mullet Festival:

what do ya'll think of Shalimar, or Niceville? I've been told those are close enough to base where I can ride a bicycle to work. I don't own a car (coming in from Kadena), and wouldn't mind not having one for awhile.

Shalimar is closer but do you want to rent or buy? You could bike but there arent many shops near the east gate. What is your job so I can get an idea for where you would work.

Depends what you also consider a easy bike ride, in the summer you would soak plus going anywhere would suck as the place is quite spread out.

I would get a car or motorcycle.

I'm intel going to the 68EW. I don't really care if the bike ride is easy or not as long as the shop has a shower and a place where I could store a uniform. I've also got a 50cc scooter, but I don't know what the local moped laws are just yet.

I also don't want to buy because my budget isn't very high. I'm saving up for a home in Houston if I get out in 12 months. If I reenlist then I'll look at buying something then.

I don't have orders yet. I had a set for DM for 25March, but that changed 2 days ago when I got a new RIP for Eglin.

Not sure where Intel works but I doubt its close to the East gate. As long as you arent near the west gate you are golden. Its quite a long ride man, Most of the tech school kids get bikes

its not a place to be without transportation trust me. IF you want to do the beach ever its a fucking trek from where you live.

Florida rocks I would get a cheap car so you can travel and enjoy it man.

I was at Corry Station in September for a 2 month TDY. It wasn't bad, but I took the TDY in hopes of getting a job OCONUS. Just my luck lol.

pensacola is alright... only complaint that i have with p-cola is that the town itself is dirt poor.

The area around Pensacola was ok. I liked the fact that it wasn't hard to get to a beach, and traffic was pretty light even during rush hour. I can only hope that Eglin will be about the same since it isn't too far down the road.

If I get out my only worries is getting a job. I still haven't figured out how to do that lol.

Isn't home insurance pretty damn high around there? I remember talking to people who lived in Pensacola (can't remember if it was closer to the beach or not) but their insurance was just as much as their mortgage.

Haven't heard from the sponsor yet, but does Eglin have RV parks? I was just thinking about buying a 5th wheel and living in that for awhile.

I'd like to work on base using my TS clearance, but I've got no clue on who to talk to. Seems like it is always who you know not what you know.

Well if you are going to be getting out you can talk to the AFRC to a transition councelor and they can help you get connected on who to talk to.

look at usajobs.com (or something like that) You should be able to bring up jobs on that base.
