I want to move away from whole eggs to egg whites. I've noticed that quite a few people simply seperate a bunch of eggs and store them in a jar. How long does that store for and how many ounces equal 1 egg?

    kthx

    thats like $2.50 worth :p

Anyhow, you can seperate them immediately before cooking, just crack the shell in two and turn so the yoke falls into one shell and the white goes around it and the shell and falls into the bowl. If cutting, try 5-6 egg whites, if bulking try double that.

Can separate and freeze in ice cube trays, then turn out and store in plastic container or freezer bag. Works pretty well. :coold:

And they'll last about 5 days max in the fridge. After that you'd have to cook them to ashes to be sure they're safe.

i never knew you could buy strictly egg whites without its yolk. i guess i been living under a rock.
everytime i eat 3 eggs, i take out 2 yolks and cook it only with 1 so the tatse isnt so bad.

    Fixed; for me.

Now I need to shop for egg whites at my local grocery stores and see how much it costs.

I'd imagine it's more pricey to buy egg whites vs whole eggs, with all the labor involved... I just cook a dozen hard boiled at a time and pick out the yolk, tastes fine with a little salt

I would imagine you are correct. But if it is only 2-3 times more expensive I can deal with the difference in cost.

just seperate them when you cook, I can seperate like a whole dozen in about a minute or 2.
