we were tumbling around at about 80% speed/strenght/aggressiveness and he was in my guard/gaurd/gourd and he slipped one arm under my left leg, i just pulled his head down and locked the figure 4 and scooted to the side some....

first time i successfully pulled it while "tumbling" oh and also i was able to get a kimura in a bit latter when i was in his guard...but he pushed me away with his feet and squeezed one of my nuts in the process :squint:

    1) born in AZ
    2) moved to Saudi Arabia when i was 4 months
    3) dad still lives in Saudi Arabia (working for an oil co.) i'm back for the summer and saw they have a BJJ class going on so decided to take it up when i had the opportunity.

i love it....BJJ ftw....i'm pretty good at striking but haven't been taught anything/sparred at all...but that'll change once i get back to the states for college in about 2 weeks....(see my other thread)

Triangle is one of the (few) things I have luck at getting. My legs must appear less lanky in my gi :mamoru:

no slamming rule at my gym as well.

I was also told not to go for the kimura from guard as I will end up in an arm bar from someone more skilled.

to be honest it was more picked up and dropped, not slammed :hs:

the only sub i would go for while in someone else's guard is the can-opener.
other than that sub attempt its usually like handing them a tapout.

Probably shouldnt do it against your training partners at your gym as it isnt very "nice". Depends on if neck cranks are ok with them or not.

If you are in someones guard, just reach both hands and clasp them behind the crown of their head and pull towards your chest. They will have to open their guard or submit.

Just watch out for them framing (pushing) your head to the side as your arms are in a position where your opponent could attack them if he was able to alleviate the pressure on his neck temporarily.

above poster summed it up well.

just imagine your head being pulled toward your chest. so that your chin is the can opener for your sternum.

im 150, my training partner was 240... i tapped and told him... nice can-opener. next time we rolled i got his back and sunk an rnc. as payback i was tempted to not let go. :mamoru:

yeah, i remember he beat some big asian dude with that years ago. and i remembered bas' words "awll he had to dew was ooopen his guard and relieve the pain."

so when i got can-opener'd i opened my guard. the pain didnt subside. and since i was in training class i didnt feel like being a badass and refusing to tap. shit, that neck strain lasted 3 more days. :squint:

see, i really messed my neck up about 3 years ago during a wrestling team practiced (me and my teammate i was practicing against heard a pop). then the next year i got a concussion which rattled my upper neck vertebrae. so most strains against my neck muscles/area i usually just tap so i don't get badly hurt..

ugh, ok I DO know what that is. Our gym kind of stays away from neck cranks, but I've had that done to me on a few occasions :hs:

When I was new I was triangleing this guy who came in to do a video shoot for a documentary and decided to join up. He picked me up and tried to power bomb me, I held on and he tapped.

I politely told him, that in training you do not do that, and if he ever tried it again i would put him to sleep.

2 rolls later her did it again. As soon as he lifted me i pinched my knees extra hard and he slammed me, i grabbed the head and cut the hip and he starts tappin like crazy, gurgling and all sorts of noise. He finally goes out
and i let him go. I roll him over, smack him across the mouth he wakes up and i said "I told you if you slam me you will take a nap, don't do it again.

He disapeared a few weeks later.

:rofl::bowdown: did you smack him in the mouth to wake him up, or smack him just cause he pissed you off.
