I need Windows Vista for my cert. My GF can get it for about $100 through her educational discount. Can she get in trouble for buying it for me? Could they track it to me through installing it and catch her?

Technically, it's against the license agreement.

Can they track you (or better yet, do they care)? No

Cool. I hate having to do it but I really do need it and $300+ is kinda steep for me. I dont even like Vista, I want to stick with XP but I HAVE to. :hs:

yes. it is against the license. yes. it can be tracked.

will they track it? probably not.

    can they? yes.

    can they sue you? yes.

    will they? probably not.

does any of this really matter? no, it's wrong and you shouldn't do it.

    /thread.

I dont care if they sue me. I just dont want my GF to get in trouble with her school over it.

Does your gf use your computer? Do you share the computer? If you only install it in one machine and your girlfriend uses the machine for school work I don't see how it violates the license agreement...

it is unethical, and she could be expelled under those grounds if caught.

    likely? probably not.

    possible? yes.

Check out technet direct. It is $350 but it will be useful if you are getting MS certs.

You might be able to find a promo code online some where.

Just have her buy it and be done with it. It's really not that big of a deal and I HIGHLY doubt a university is going to waste the time and money tracking every version of Vista they sell.

odd, I walked right in, they had a pallet of them, asked for one, a guy walked it to the cashier, I paid, and walked out. Took like 6 minutes. If I'm out n the snow it's gonna be on an ATV or snowboard.

On launch day? I find that hard to believe, there were 6-12 hour lines overnight just about everywhere.
