I am wanting a pistol, and was told Sigs are pretty close to the best.. i got a chanceto fire 3 types, a 9mm, a .357, and .45ACP .. all felt good in my hands, and the recoil wasn't bad either.. but any kind of information you can give on buying new, used, or just general info would be most appreciated

Yes, Sigs are good. They are German made and the most popular is the P226, which you can find for around $400-$500 used.

  3. fuck the 226, 229 FTW.

    but Glock > Sig

I'd say Sig is probably the best you can get for less than $800. (although right now I'd probably get a glock for less than $500 if I had to choose.) The 226 is awesome, but my favorite is definitely the p220. It fit my hand perfectly, was easy to shoot accurately, and the .45 recoil seemed very relaxed. It was pretty large though, which would be a hassle if you wanted to carry.

You should be able to find used ones in good condition for reasonable prices

my first handgun was a CPO p226... I couldn't be happier with it, I tried XDs, glocks, they were real good, but I love everything about the sig and want to get another one (or a suppressed p22 :o )

What are the differences between the P220, P226, and P229? They all seem relatively similar to me... :o :dunno:

226 Full size 9mm (now can also be had in 40/357)
220 Full Size 45 (roughly the saem dimensions as the 226

229- "compact" version in 9mm/40/357 of the 226

I have all 3, no probs with any, and have carried my 226 for almost 10 years (actually ahve owned 4 of them, with 20,000 rounds through all of them total.)

AS for the glock is greater comment... I will leave no comment. Whatever floats your boat

    P220 is .45 acp

    P226 is a large frame (4.4" barrel)
    P229 is a medium frame (3.9" barrel)

    ..............both 226 & 229 you can get in either 9mm, .357 sig, & .40 S&W

please refer to custom user text
    <--------

but seriously, sig/hk/glock/xd are probably the top of the market, excluding custom 1911s.

I have preference to sig cause it's like the grip was made for my hand, but it's what feels best, and what you shoot best.

226 for full size, 228/229/239 for compact, 232 for subcompact.

There is no such thing as the best. Its all what you like. I have a 226 and its a solid handgun but I hate its trigger.

Sigs are nice guns, I own a few, but they aren't worth the price new in box. Get a used one, CPO if you can.

Does sig make a 10mm? I've never seen one, so Glock > Sig by defualt.

I've got a SigPro 2009 and love the thing. It's extremely accurate and the trigger is awesome. Glocks just feel too hollow and cheap imo :o. I don't like the Glock trigger, either.

Sig's are great. They've always done well on torture tests. They WILL run dry. Standard issue for Navy SEALs(226) and would probably have been chosen as the standard issued US miltary 9mm over the Beretta had it been cheaper.

Got a 226 myself, paid ~700 for a brand new one and it was well worth it.
