I know how they work and the parts, but what do you look for when buying one? What are some good brands to look for and the different features? TIA.:wavey:

Is the WMD bow hunting crew absent, or does that not really exist?

The Great Outdoors. I bought a bow off a guy in there. Seemed like a lot of them knew their stuff.

Mathews, Bowtech, Hoyt, PSE, Fred Bear, and Browning are respectable brands though bows can get quite pricey (especially from the first three brands I listed) Go to an actual bow shop and talk to someone there.

each person has their own preference, just like guns. so, shoot some different ones and see which you like best. if you plan to compete, go for a speed bow w/a long axle to axle ratio. for hunting, a shorter bow will work better when you're drawing in a blind or cover. for your first bow, i'd reccomend getting a package bow(one that comes with sight, stabilzer, rest...etc). a cheap bow will kill animals just as dead as an expensive one as long as you do your part. if you want to do some research, hop over to archerytalk.com and poke around for a bit. for what it's worth, i shoot a PSE Beast which some consider low end, but it does the job just fine. i bought it used for $200 and it came with everything except a release. be warned though that it is an addicting sport, just like guns ;)

Yeah, I'm not too worried about getting addicted to another hobby. My g/f won't like it, but so long as I'm having fun then it's worth it. I've never really heard of any, but do they have archery ranges like they have gun ranges?

yes, but they may be harder to find. your best bet is to see if there is a bow shop in your area, go there and ask questions. the bow shop i go to even has it's own indoor range.

 I put a hole on my closet door when I bought my PSE Imapala, I didn't fully extend and the arrow didn't even have the head on, it still went through a solid wood cabinet.

Last time I tried to play with a compound bow (brother bow hunts), I aggrivated an old, pesky shoulder injury. Haven't touched another one since. I wonder if I could qualify for a crossbow permit for hunting? :naughty:

    I have 3 compund bows
1 is a polar 2 that belonged to my dad really old

and 2 Browning bows. all are set at 60 # pull I don't use them very much because I can't shoot them very long before I get fatiged. Of course if I shot them more I wouldn't get tired but you know.

As far as lethalness any arrow fired from a compound bow weather it be target tip or hunting tip will kill you or whatever you are shooting at. I belive the average bow shoots arrows at around 350 fps.

the average bow does less than 300fps, I'd put it closer to 275.

depends on how strong you are :dunno: If you think you can hold 70lbs back get a #70 but unlike compounds theres no let off so you're holding that weight the entire time.
