First off, let me say make sure your warranty expires for you macbook. My macbook warranty is expired and I just got a MBP so i feel like doing something to this macbook thats been so good to me . There is two ways to do this: (1) Will most likely void your warranty (2) Will most likely get away with it.

    Tools you need:

#000 screwdriver (mine is a utility set that comes with exchangeable heads) 6 bucks at Home depot:

    Knife:

    Scissors:

50 cents folder, make sure the folder is transparent to light:

First you take your flat head or knife and CAREFULLY pry open the plastic strip off the LCD. This can be don fairly easily:

Now there are about 12 screws on the LCD that holds it to the casing. Remove these screws and put them in order. (Its different sizes). DO NOT remove the screws on the iSight camera. Theres no need to do this.

Now pull down the LCD to reveal the back casing:

Now here is the part where you have two options as mention above. There is this pretty opaque white sheet that covering the apple logo. If you want a BRIGHT colored decal, you MUST remove it, and will most likly void your warranty. You do not have to remove it in order to make the front Apple logo shine your favorite color. Since my macbook was out of warranty I removed it with a knife.

CAREFULY DO THIS PART. The Apple logo is not 100% transparent, there is a white cloudy film that covers it. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT scratch this cloudy film. If you do, it wont be horrible, but you will notice it if you look closely at it.

Cut out a square shape like so:

Put two piece of take to hold up the colored decal:

How it looks when you DONT void your warranty: (this is in bright daylight btw, so it a lot dimmer than it really is):

How it looks when you void your warranty (in semi dark room):

How it looks when you void your warranty (in really dark room):

be careful with the edge around the screen. as a habit i had my fingernail inside that edge and i popped it out once. when i tried to push it back in, one of the clips got deformed...45 mins later + a pair of surgical tweezers later i got the whole thing back together, but it sticks out ever so slightly

so if you have a macbook + applecare, this is probably not a good idea because it will void applecare, correct?

Well if you dont take off the white part of the backing on the apple logo, theres no way to tell. So im guessing this will be the best thing to do.

meaningif you need to bring it in to apple store to fix something, just take it apart and take the decal off.

sun light from a window will shine straight through it if you remove the grey diffuser. It will look like you have some kind of pressure damage to the LCD, just put your hand over the apple to check :big grin:

Then couldn't you put the grey diffuser behind the decal?

I remember seeing an EDU somewhere about how to do this. It's pretty much the same process, you just have to get specific filters for each strip and put them together.
