Select the song you want to use...
Right click and click "get info"...

    Go to the "Options" tag:

Select the portion of the song you want to use using the "start" and "stop" times. I typically make ringtones 30-35 seconds.

    Click OK

Go to your iTunes preferences (iTunes -->Preferences) or (Command + ,)
Go to the advanced tab and make your "import using" be set to "mp3 encoder" and your quality to 128kbps.
    Press OK

Go back and select the song you want to use.
Right click, "convert selection to mp3"

It will convert the song and place it beside the original song (unless the original song was in a playlist, in which case it won't be)

Select the new song (the one with the length of ~30 seconds, not the full length version) and drag it to your desktop.

    Thats all. Enjoy :wavey:

Now if only there was an easy way to get them on your iPhone. Easy being the qualifying word.

is it up to drag and drop status? I hated the recovery mode lock unlock crap that needed to be done with the early versions.

    I make them in quicktime.

just copy the song to your desktop and then crop with the sliders.

but you can't just set it as a ringtone. Is iFuntastic my best option for ringtones and is it drag and drop yet?

People are saying the new iTunes removes ringtones placed in there by 3rd party programs. Not sure if its true I haven't done anything to my iPhone yet.
