if I do eat before how long should I wait before working out?
I'm curious as well, I ahve read from various "experts" pretty much every combination of carbs/protein/fat before/after/during your workout. I try to get some protein before (not a huge shake or anything), drink gatorade during, and tons of carbs/whey immediately afterwards.
you don't need "tons of carbs" unless you're doing a bunch of endurance training
Depending on goals
But you want carbs both before and after working out. And protein immediately after aswell.
tons was a gross overstatement. 2 cups milk and 1/2- 3/4c quick oats are all i really have that have carbs, and sometimes PB.
I make a shake with a cup of oats, protein shot, and banana right before i drive to the gym and it works out great.
You want to get complex carbs becaue they absorb slow and will give you energy for your whole work out.
sounds good is that just liquid protein you get a GNC or something sorry I'm a noob at this
I need to start doing this too.
I've just been having 1c of oats / protein source approx. 1 hr before working out and a dextrose/whey combo after.
I just sip on 20 g of protein and 35g of dextrose during the workout. Then chug 20 g of protein and 35g of dextrose post workout. Seems to work well for me
I do mostly endurance and muscular endurance stuff so I eat a shitload of carbs the night before and a few hours before working out... If I work out with anything in my stomach I will want to throw up, so I usually don't eat for an hour and a half or two hours before the workout. Drink only a little water during because I keep it pretty nonstop and will cramp up if I drink during a break, then afterwards have a protein shake and eat a meal. I have plenty of energy this way and I've been seeing improvements in performance and appearance.
I'd imagine if I were lifting I would probably eat sooner before and drink a lot of shit during.
i generally have some type of high-protein meal a couple hours before...then a tablespoon of peanut butter and a banana right as i'm leaving. Sip on Xtend during the workout..and then a protein shake when i get back.
i eat right after i work. im pretty fuckin hungry by then and i cant workout on an empty stomach. i usually pound a turkey sandwich, some eggs, and like an ice tea for some quick energy. i eat just enough where i have enough energy to get thru my workout, but not enough so i feel like im gonna puke
eat both before and after. before you are going to want stuff that is going to give you energy for your workout, but don't eat too much that you feel like you're going to lose your lunch while you're lifting. afterwards you want things that will help your body recover, protein, simple & complex carbs.
