some friends wanted to get pics taken of all of their kids for a present for their grandma. had them come over & busted out the white seamless.

580exII high camera right, shoot-through umbrella
285hv (bare) back camera left, shining on background
    silver reflector camera left

If anything, I think the light was too far behind them. I think there wasn't enough light up front. You almost can't tell where they end, and the background begins.

Primary light should be 45° x 45° (over and up) from the front. Then play with other lights on the other side to get rid of harsh shadows. Fill flash works wonders too.

    Just the same, cute photos.

I like the second one cause the feet are not cutoff and everyone but the second to the right girl is facing the camera. If you have any where she is looking straight swap the heads and it would be a great shot.

for that shadow, I would go to "replace color" and and click it and then adjust your fuzziness to taste, and the turn it white, apply a mask and mask off everything but that shadow and the shadow should go white and blend decent.

the biggest thing that bothers me is in the first pic, the girl on the left, there is a harsh shadow that cuts down from her nose through the right side of her mouth, almost makes her face just look dirty or something(same sorta thing happens to the boy in the middle too). and im pretty sure its due to what everyone has already pointed out with the backlighting being too much.

I was gonna say this. But That might be from the reflector on the left, rather than the light in the back. Go to a White reflector to soften up the light from that side, and it'll probably tone down those awkward shadows naturally.
