alright, so when i got my ear pierced the person who did it told me i didnt really need to do anything with it after it healed, i asked if i should take it out and clean it or something every once in a while, and they told me i didnt have to

so anyways, i just took my earring out after being in forever and there was this nasty ass black shit on it :ugh2:

it was pretty disgusting, and now has me a bit freaked out

anyways, i put a new earring in today, got it at some place at the mall for $20, it is white gold, does that have a high rate of getting infected for people?

i used a cheap earring before, and it got infected, when i took it out, the metal was actually worn off and it was black underneath, so im assuming that is what made it get infected, and im afraid it is going to happen again

so if my body "accepts" this white gold one, how can i take care of it so that doesnt happen to me again?

all i have done before is just turned it every once in a while, but i left it in for months, im not sure if thats a :nono: or not :dunno:

Were you pierced with a gun? If so that "black shit" was probably from the cheap studs they use.

Go to a piercing studio and get a stainless steel earring.

i wore a silver nose stud for a long while and didnt do much to it other than the general face wash etc. I had a black ring around the hole and was told that the oils in our skin react with silver and can tarnish it. Perhaps thats ur problem :)
I've had a stainless steel one in now for yrs and never had a problem

no, but i had a gold stud in it

yeah, the gold one i had in was fine, i just decided to take it out and replace it, but i felt a bi disgusted after seeing that stuff, it was like earwax or something but black

i think im just gonna take it out a few times a month and clean it, dip it in alcohol and put it back in

if you only have one ear pierced, and only intend to have one earring in it, why not save yourself the time and trouble by just spending some cash on a quality product? if your pierced ear has already healed, there is no need to turn the earing. taking it out once or twice a week to clean it is a good idea. just some regular hand soap should do, just to get the buildup off. hell, just do it in the shower. wash your earlobe, too.

im doing searches, it seems that more people have problems with stanless steel than with gold/white gold

what are the "loop" earrings usually made of? because my ear got infected from one of those a while ago also

You weren't pierced by a professional. You've already stated that by saying you weren't pierced with a needle. That's why you were pierced with a gold stud.

You have a much larger chance of being allergic to gold than you do with 316L stainless steel body jewellery (the type that professional piercers use)

Those "loop earrings" are usually made from 925 silver or shitty gold. You probably had a reaction to the nickel content in the jewellery.

If you don't want problems with your ears stick with 10-14k gold (hypoallergenic) or 316L SS from a piercing studio.

Avoid shitty accessory stores that sell earrings (Claires, Ardenes, most mall stores)

i have had my ear pierced twice, one with a gun at a piercing place that used a gold stud, and another time by a friend with the same exact stud, except there was no gun

thats cool, but it still doesnt change the fact that they used a gold stud to pierce my ear when i got it pierced the first time

Which still doesn't change the fact that both times you had your ear pierced it was done by a hack.

ok, so anyways, lets say im gonna get my ear pierced by another "hack"

i want my earrings to match, so is it cool to pierce it with the gold stud, then take it out and put a normal one in, or will it somehow get fucked up?
